So the weather outside was pretty frightful this weekend, no? But on the bright side, that meant it was the perfect weather for Kollaboration New York’s dedicated team to stay indoors all weekend — in search of this season’s set of finalists for the big show in September. And we’re so glad that we did.

After two solid days of live auditions, we’ve come to the conclusion that there really is no more talented city than the one that never sleeps — be it singer-songwriters, dancers, spoken word poets or artists we can’t even begin to tack a label on.

Suffice it to say, you’re all in for an amazing season of Kollaboration New York, and we can’t wait to reveal your top contenders for this year’s prize.

Stay tuned, and until next time, be sure to follow us on Twitter at @kollabny and Like us on Facebook at facebook.com/KollabNY. We want to hear what you guys want to hear (and read!) more of, so let’s keep this conversation flowin’.

How do you measure success? The number of Twitter followers you’ve amassed? The tens of thousands of YouTube subscribers you’ve collect over the years? Or how about something a little less quantifiable, like a simple sense of accomplishment after penning a new song or choreographing a new dance? (Note, though: Twerking doesn’t count.)

For New York-based rapper Awkwafina (remember her? Here’s a refresher), taking the stage after legendary comedian and voice-actor Gilbert Gottfried is probably a pretty good sign that she’s on the right track. At Thursday night’s Running Late With Scott Rogowsky, the Forest Hills-born spitfire closed out the night with two of her hits: “My Vag” and “NYC Bitche$.” And she may have just gained herself some new fans.

KNY Audition Applications Due TOMORROW! Plus, KAFSC Gala Info

If you’ve been wondering what exactly it’ll take to win Kollaboration New York, check out this awesome clip of last year’s winner, singer-songwriter John Quiwa, doing his thing on our very own Kollaboration New York 2012 stage. Not only did John walk away with the $1,000 grand prize (not too shabby at all — think of all the bubble teas he can buy with that!), but the aspiring singer also got the chance to open up for Clara C and David Choi for their fall show right here in NYC.

Kollaboration New York is also all about giving back. As a member of the Kollaboration family, you’ll get the chance to perform at amazing community events and open mics, including the Korean American Family Service Center Gala (KAFSC), which is set to take place this coming Friday, May 3. (KAFSC is a community organization that promotes healthy and respectful relationships within families and among peers of all ages by offering a 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, counseling, and support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.)

Why You Should Audition for Kollaboration New York: Izzy Salinel

It’s over two weeks into April, you’re starting to switch up your winter wardrobe, the sun’s beginning to linger just a little bit longer, and you’re suddenly itching to spend some quality time outside the office, the classroom, and heck, even your bite-sized New York City apartment.

Whatever could all these things mean (aside from the fact that we all spend way too much time cooped up indoors)?

Well first, that spring is just around the corner — finally! — and second, that the deadline for Kollaboration New York applications is fast approaching. And if you’re wavering about whether or not you should apply, our totally non-biased, only-looking-out-for-your-best-interest plug is this: Yes. You should apply.

Why? As past finalist Izzy Salinel will tell you in the video above, it’ll change your life in ways you can’t even imagine yet.

Kollaboration New York Alum Bea Go Wants YOU to Audition!

And….go! It’s that time of year again — time to dust off the ivories, toughen up the guitar calluses and ready those singing voices — because Kollaboration New York has officially kicked off its 8th annual season with the release of its 2013 audition dates (interested applicants can apply here).

But let’s be honest, not everyone is a natural-born ham (for those who are, power to you!) — some of us are just a little bit more private about our passions and not 100% sure we’re ready to share our talents with a live audience, let alone the world (by means of the Kollaboration Star Finale and its $20,000 grand prize this October).

So why try out for Kollaboration New York? Not only is it a great opportunity to take that first step onto the (literal) stage and get your feet wet in the entertainment industry, it’s also a chance to meet some fellow talented New Yorkers and develop that sense of community that we all crave so much in the daily bustle of city livin’.

And, as an added bonus, you’ll get the benefit of having an internationally recognized brand (that’s us!) backing you up all the way, helping you to navigate through the confusing waters of becoming a full-fledged Asian American star, whatever your talent may be!

But don’t just take our word for it. Check out the video above, and let last year’s finalist Bea Go tell you a bit about her own experiences taking part in Kollaboration and what it’s meant for her own career so far.
